Apocalyptic thinking has not gone away, it just gets lost in the age of the short attention span. There are those who still see the universe deteriorating and teetering towards the fabled precipice of doom. Recent news stories sound like they have been taken right out of the bible. Is Apocalyptic scripture a blueprint for what is to come?

Prophecy is a tricky tool. Its fulfillment is only acknowledged in the eyes of its beholders. It seems that in some odd way people are living as if they have no future ahead of them.

There isnít one dominant system of thought that controls the actions of western society today. It has become fragmented and those who are on the constant watch for those "troubling signs of the times" are labeled as paranoid, religious nutcases who are waiting for a great savior to come.

There are also those in the same camp, that are slightly off center who want to point to an "antichrist of the week" and in the same exercise come off looking as nutty as their counterparts who probably meet in the same churches, or social groups. Finally there are those who have been thrown into a sense of apathy, not caring either way because it all is a catalyst for depression.

Not just any depression, either, but one where the person is angry but is too beaten up emotionally to even act upon that anger.

I am one of those people who ride the roller coaster of all emotions with regard to the possibility of an end game scenario playing out in an apocalyptic curtain call.

I look around me and I see metaphors in television shows, in movies, and in songs. Which of course is arguably a sign of mental breakdown on my part.

However I am not the only one.

Just when I am about to resolve that I am delusional things begin to transpire that convince me that we are in the slow deteriorating cycle. One where the end of the world wonít happen in one big sweeping desolation, but a gradual deteriorating decay where the living remain in a world that eventually devolves into a blighted, rancid hell.

Fifty years ago we wouldnít have had conversations about genetically modified foods, global warming, Mad Cow disease, mass slaughtering of animals, the raping of resources, rolling blackouts, hybrid experimentation, and other subjects that werenít even written about in pulp science fiction books.

I have an eerie dreamscape that I have buried somewhere in that circus I call my imagination that demonstrates how I see the global demise.

I wake up one day and the world doesnít feel the same. In the weeks that follow the water seems to taste funny. Weeks become months and in the months that follow I notice that the meat I consume has a different texture. The vegetables I eat donít give me the necessary nutrients I need. Years pass and the music I listen to sounds flat, movies arenít as entertaining, television seems arbitrary. By this time I look for simplicity. I look for beauty in sunshine, trees, and flowers.

The sun is blocked by smog, the trees are dying and the flowers lose their fragrance. I go to places where people are. However there is no spirit from the people. They walk around in a daze. Street urchins hold out their frail hands for a quarter and as I look into their sunken eyes, I throw them what little I have. I see them smile at me with their decayed teeth and I glance at the purple sores that seem to consume the once healthy skin that barely keeps their internal organs from falling on to the ground.

I hear on the news that animals have diseases and that they have to be killed. Mass slaughters take place and the carcasses of these animals are burned sending a pungent odor of decay and charred blood. Meanwhile the rest that have not been disposed of lay as carrion to be picked over by vultures, flies and maggots.

I start to feel nauseous. I go to the doctor and he tells me that I am fine. He says that maybe I need rest or perhaps I need to take a "no think" pill that will numb me to what is going on around me.

Children begin to wish for death. But they donít die. So they commit suicide. Some even resort to destructive behaviors. They grab weapons. They use them on innocent people who are probably just as angry and sad as they are.

Leaders begin to fall. Everyone who we revere is exposed in some scandal. We use the marketplace and the media to stone them for being human. We all commit the same "sins" but cast stones anyway so that we can appear to be ridding the world of some nebulous evil.

We donít know why this evil is happening but we will point out who is responsible for it.

Without even thinking that we could be at fault.

Then I wake up and realize that the hell I was dreaming about is the very hell that every prophet has talked about for thousands of years.

There is no center in todayís social structure. There seems to be a lot of action with no wisdom. We have the power to do just about anything to ourselves and to creatures that we allegedly have dominion over. The question is should we?

I begin to question if true Christians arenít on the cusp of going ballistic over news stories that shout out loud the idea that we are watching things crumble and fall around us. Something that the prophets allegedly warned us about for thousands of years.

The "end of the world philosophies" like the doomsayer prophecies I spoke of earlier are in the eye of the beholder. When someone says that we are about to see the end of the world transpire, there are always those who will laugh and pull out a science book and say that we still have five billion years before the sun goes into Red Giant mode, swallowing up the Earth and the other planets in the solar system. It is estimated that the Universe itself has sixteen trillion years before it starts collapsing back in on itself.

Ironically, we tend to forget that the creation of the Universe left behind debris ice balls, asteroids, and other space anomalies that by some weird synchronicity havenít hit our planet rendering it completely devoid of life. We havenít met the same fate of the dinosaurs yet. We have become complacent in the thousands of years without a direct hit.

The chances of it happening still exist and if we really paused to think about how lucky we are to wake up breathing everyday maybe we would all quit being so callous to each other. The gift of life is taken for granted at every turn.

In the year 2001 man has decided that he will conquer the universe The sky is no longer the limit. He will divide up every piece of space and every star. He will strip it and rob it of its natural resources thinking that the Universe can be tamed.

In a war between the universe and man, man will eventually lose.

I canít help but bring up the fact that tomorrow evening at about 6:00 P.M. a rock the size of Texas traveling thousands of miles per hour could hit the ocean causing a tidal wave about 8 miles high creating an extinction level event.

Keep in mind that it is possible. Not probable.

You could be sitting here reading this right now and not even finish the entire article.

That is the comedy known as the chaotic universe. Many of us donít even take it seriously.

The reason why is because no one wants to be the party pooper. Doom saying isnít popular. You donít want to send the sheep into a panic. Doom saying is a great motivator, or an even greater mental trap. That is why religion has been so successful up until now.

It also goes without saying that a lot of apocalyptic gerrymandering leads to sects and violence.

Many people have experimented and even investigated religion. We have had the Bible pushed into our face so that we may read what fate awaits us. It is the creepiest thing that when you read of all the twisted things that await us in the apocalyptic prophecies, there are many dyed in the wool Christians who eagerly want this to happen. They are chomping at the bit for the "beaming" up of devout Christians in something called the rapture. In the same vein most people who do not necessarily subscribe to the biblical account of the end speculate that this could also be interpreted as "beam ships" arriving to evacuate a certain number of the earthís inhabitants before it is completely destroyed.

Since these scenarios can all be found in the Bible we can open it up and read what can only be called science fiction unless we apply the mainstream news events to what can be prophetic warnings.

Using the Biblical prophecy, letís take a look at some startling speculation about where we are headed and what is up. While reading some of these startling speculations you may want to ask if the signs are blatant, If the portents are in place, if we are living in an apocalypse by numbers.

Forgive me if you are offended by biblical lessons but it seems that the prevailing paranoia springs from Christian religious texts and the granddaddy of them all is the Bible.

We are living in what Christians call the great tribulation. If the 21st century isnít the time of reckoning then all of the doom saying that was drummed up by clerics is all a big lie to convert the stubborn. I was always taught in my religious years that after we reached 2000 years it was anyoneís guess when our whole damned existence would come crashing down around us. So now let us itemize the list of what is happening and what is to come.

Revelationís 13: 15-17

"He causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

Of course we all know what that number is right?

Itís 666 for those who donít know. Now the hard part. Trying to sell everyone on the idea that this number may have been readily accepted by everyone.

There are a few people who make strange comparisons to the Hebrew symbol for the number 6. The symbol of course is the W. I guess it would be over kill to spell out what this implies. There were many Christian speculators who believed that the beast would some day be a super computer that would have tentacles that would reach out and enslave the world. That the supercomputer would be in every home and it would be used for selling or bartering. It would become necessary to have a code or password in order to use it.

The code or password would have to have a 666 somewhere in its numeric configuration. Since the W is the numeric symbol for "6" in Hebrew, any combination of the letter or "WWW" could very well be the secret password. There are many more people who actually think that UPC bar codes that are on our products are a Mark similar to the fabled mark of the beast. It is also interesting to note that the number 6 in Roman numerals is VI.

If you were to take out a piece of paper and write three sixes in the Roman numeric style you would get VI VI VI. If you then connected the letters with a diagonal line from the upper right of the "V" to the bottom of the "I" you would then see the same WWW. So could it be that we have already accepted the 666 by using the Internet? Who knows? It makes for some wild number fun and an even scarier premise.

That is, we have accepted it without even questioning if we should.

But what about accepting the number and having it in your hand and forehead?

Well that is simple. Biometrics and Chip Implantation are the ways we can have everyone numbered and tracked in a sick, Orwellian way. Does any of this technology exist? Well of course it does and steps are being taken to have it required by law. The idea has been around since the 1960ís.

Dr Carl W. Sanders is an electronics engineer, inventor, author and consultant to various government organizations as well as IBM, General Electric, Honeywell and Teledyne. He is also a winner of the Presidents and Governors Award for Design Excellence. Here he explains the microchip in his own words.

"Thirty two years of my life was spent in design engineering and electronics designing microchips in the Bio-Med field. In 1968 I became involved, almost by accident, in a research and development project in regard to a spinal bypass for a young lady who had severed her spine. They were looking at possibly being able to connect motor nerves etc. It was a project we were all excited about. There were 100 people involved and I was senior engineer in charge of the project.

This project culminated in the microchip that we talk about now a - microchip that I believe is going to be the positive identification and mark of the beast. This microchip is recharged by body temperature changes.

Obviously you can't go in and have your battery changed every so often, so the microchip has a recharging circuit that charges based upon the body temperature changes. Over one and a half million dollars was spent finding out that the two places in the body that the temperature changes the most rapidly are in the forehead (primary position), right below the hairline, and the back of the hand (alternative position).

Working on the microchip, we had no idea about it ever being an identification chip. We looked at it as being a very humanitarian thing to do. We were all excited about what we were doing. We were doing high-level integration for the very first time. This team was made up of people out of San Jose, people from Motorola, General Electric, Boston Medical Center - it was quite a group of people.

My responsibility had to do with the design of the chip itself, not the medical side of if. As the chip came to evolve, there came a time in the project when they said that the financial return on bypassing severed spines is not a very lucrative thing for us to be into, so we really need to look at some other areas. We noticed that the frequency of the chip had a great effect upon behavior and so we began to branch off and look possibly at behavior modification.

The project almost turned into electronic acupuncture because what they ended up with was embedding the microchip to put out a signal which effected certain areas. They were able to determine that you could cause behavioral change. One of the projects was called the Phoenix project which had to do with Vietnam veterans. We had a chip that was called the Rambo chip.

This chip would actually cause extra adrenaline flow. I wonder how many people know that if you can stop the output of the the pituitary gland (the signal from the pituitary gland that causes estrogen flow), you can put a person into instant menopause and there is no conception. This was tested in India and other different parts of the world. So here you have got a birth control tool, based on a microchip. Microchips can also be used for migraine headaches, behavior modification, upper/downer, sexual stimulant and sexual depressant. This is nothing more than electronic acupuncture, folks. There are 250,000 components in the microchip, including a tiny lithium battery.

I fought them over using lithium as a battery source but NASA was doing a lot with lithium at that time and it was the going thing. I had talked to a doctor at the Boston Medical Center about what that concentration of lithium in the body could do if the chip broke down. He said that you would get boils or a grievous sore. As the development moved along, I left the project and came back as a consultant several times.

I was used in many meetings as an expert witness in regard to the uses of the microchip. I was in one meeting where it was discussed. How can you control a people if you can't identify them?" All of a sudden the idea came: "Lets make them aware of lost children, etc." This was discussed in meetings almost like people were cattle. As we developed this microchip, as the identification chip became the focal point, there were several things that were wanted.

They wanted a name, a Digitized Image (picture of your face), Social security number with the international digits on it, finger print identification, physical description, family history, address, occupation, income tax information and criminal record. I've been in 17 "one world" meetings where this has been discussed, meetings in Brussels, Luxembourg, tying together the finances of the world. Just recently in the newspapers they've talked about the Health Care Program, the "Womb to Tomb" identification!

A positive identification. There are bills before congress right now that will allow them to inject a microchip in your child at the time of birth for identification purposes. The president of the United States of America, under the "Emigration of Control Act of 1996", Section 100, has the authority to deem whatever type of identification is necessary - whether it be an invisible tattoo or electronic media under the skin. So I think you have to look at the facts, folks: this is not coming as some big shock. The paving has been done ahead of time."

Religious paranoia s kept it from being marketed back then. Now it seems the guard has been let down. Convenience has determined that a micro chipped society will eventually be the norm in 5-10 years. The military already uses these chips, and in The European Union people have already accepted the fact that chips that are implanted in the hand can be useful in gaining access to bank accounts and the internet.

Ground Zero even reported about the Digital Angel Implant and now it may be required by law in California to have one of those implants in your pet or face criminal charges.

Senate Bill 236 will require pet owners to imbed microchips in their dogs and cats revealing the owner's name, phone number and address. Those who resist face criminal penalties. What if they made it law that you or your children get the chip? Would you defy the authorities or accept it?

I guess you could say it is against your religious beliefs but there is nothing in the bible that says this is the Mark of the beast. Itís only speculative interpretation that will surely be ridiculed and considered a paranoid delusion. No one can even open up the old "scary Interpretations" of the biblical passages without feeling the least bit embarrassed any more. They are called paranoid Christians, Conspiracy theorists, or doomsayers.

I look at it as entertaining. The "devil" has done what he always seems to do. Sneak under the radar and convince Christians to do the very things that they have sworn they never would do. It is keen to the intellect. It is what everyone else does. It is once again demonstrating that the sheep will walk off a high cliff if a leader does it to.

You see what following gets you? Playing the Apocalypse by the numbers can really show you what may be happening using old Christian scare tactics.

It is so much fun to squirm at the thought that we are living in times of what appears to be fulfillment in Tribulation dogma.

Numerous Bible passages describe this time.

Joel 2:2 describes it as a day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness.

When you apply it to the daily news you can see that perhaps this is all taking place. The cyclical universe is coming back around and we are seeing that you can measure a circle from almost anywhere and using circular logic you can see that we may be in for a rude wake up call. Not just because the Bible tells you so but the numbers tell you so.

We will be seeing more Rolling Blackouts and strange weather systems that cloud the day in gloominess. It certainly can look like we are in the midst of some kind of failure of the electric systems that have kept the world lit.

Take a look at this Prophecy in the Bible This one is found ironically in the book of Numbers 33:52

"Then shall ye drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places"

Here is a Salt lake Tribune Article that was published in late February the day before an Earthquake hit the northwest:

"Afghanistan's hard-line Taliban rulers ordered the destruction Monday of all statues, including a giant 175-foot fifth-century Buddha that is said to be the world's tallest of its kind. The order came from the Taliban's supreme leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar, who issued an edict declaring statues, including the ancient Buddhas, as insulting to Islam."

Can it be this simple to point out prophecy and then a story that synchronistically appears out of nowhere?

Later we had a series of Earthquakes hitting the Northwest and Mexico. That was all coincidence right? Scriptures have said that in the tribulation of the fullness of times we would see earthquakes in diverse places, strange weather, plagues and famine.

Famine is the scary part in my observation. News about the meat supply in Europe and fears of it being tainted in the U.S. should raise some red flags.

Argentina confirmed the existence of foot-and-mouth disease in a key central province on Tuesday as neighboring countries moved to protect their borders from the highly-contagious virus.

The confirmation ended weeks of government denials that the world's No. 5 beef exporter has been infected with the virus after repeated complaints from farmers that Argentina's world- famous cattle were suffering from the disease.

Aside from spotting an outbreak of foot-and-mouth in the cattle farming heartland province of Buenos Aires, the Farming and Food Health Agency (SENASA) also said it suspected the existence of "numerous" other outbreaks.

But while European countries have taken draconian measures to keep the disease from spreading -- everything from limiting movement to mass slaughters -- some Argentine cattle growers said similar large-scale killing was unnecessary or impossible.

Argentine Meats are mostly eaten domestically however they are also served in New York and London.

Meanwhile McDonalds restaurants have been put on the alert for Mad Cow disease not only in Europe but in the U.S. as well.

McDonald's, among the largest purchasers of beef worldwide, has given its suppliers an April 1 deadline for providing documentation that the cattle they buy meet U.S. Food and Drug Administration standards for feed. The company, based in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, Illinois, expects 100 percent compliance from its beef suppliers.

No doubt about it people are worried about something caustic getting into the burger supply.

Are we seeing the beginnings of a famine? Itís beginning to all come together. Itís plain to me, how about you?

Drought may also rear its head when you consider that Winter temperatures in the United States were cooler than normal this year following two years that ranked as the warmest winters on record.

In its preliminary report on winter weather, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently reported that the average U.S. temperature from December 2000 through February 2001 was 31.8 degrees F (-0.1 C), 1.2 degrees cooler than average. The winter season also was drier than normal, bucking a trend that has seen precipitation amounts slowly rise during the last 50 years.

Drier-than-normal conditions were reported across the Southeast and Northwest while precipitation from the Rocky Mountains to the Mississippi River was above average.

The decline in precipitation in the Southwest led to the third driest winter on record in Florida. NOAA said three years of below-average rainfall caused droughts, low lake levels and water restrictions in many communities.

Itís beginning to look a lot like the Apocalypse. Funny how it all seems to be falling into place. The year is only 3 months old and already we are seeing the weirdness and fullness of what people call the end times. Is this all a part of some prophecy?

Are we headed for oblivion? We can keep our guard up and pay attention to whatever is going on and still question whether or not this is the real thing. Are the wonders from the sky, and the possibility of world famine and the fall of the stock market making you wonder if we are doomed or not?

Those who have cried wolf for so long have probably desensitized the flock from the real thing. This may be the real thing and we are asleep.

The point of this whole article is not to cry "repent" or "join a church now," or find Jesus or else", but to look at the cyclical coincidences of self fulfilling prophecies and how we are somehow giving ourselves that added push down that slippery slope into the abyss.

The clock seems to be ticking and many people think we are seconds away from Zero Hour. If one chooses to believe in the scriptures of the Bible then it is important to point out that scriptures have been fulfilled. Bible thumpers canít keep selling the idea that some day they will be fulfilled. Itís time to put up or shut up. I am demonstrating that it is happening. I am speculating that we havenít even run the race, and the starting gun was fire many years ago.

So where are we now and where are we going? The thing that worries me is the latest paranoia regarding pestilence and famine. Ebola scares, and many other disease scares have made the news and now.

The European Union, and other beef producing countries like Argentina have now been reporting Mad Cow, and foot and mouth disease. All of the People could die from ingesting certain foods. Drought could also wipe out crops in certain parts of the world, and soon the work force will be seeing widespread reduction.

This is only the beginning. I am sure there are many things waiting in the wings and this is never the final say. What we are seeing are only pieces of the puzzle and what I have written is not in any way a definitive solving of the puzzle.

It is only a way to draw conclusions by playing the Apocalypse by the numbers game. The odds are favoring an all out breaking of the bank.

The question is can you afford to lose everything?
